Although most of our guests stay with us to experience the thrills and beauty of the Brecon Beacons, there are loads of great places to visit during your stay, especially if the Welsh weather is a little inclement.

Hay-on-Wye
The world renowned "second hand book capital of the world" is just 40 minutes from us and is a fascinating place to find weird and wonderful books on any subject at amazing prices.
Dan Yr Ogof Showcaves
One of the largest showcave systems in Northern Europe is open from Easter to October and has stalagmites and stalactites to wow young and old alike. There is also a dinosaur park and iron age village, together with a petting zoo. Tel: 01639 730293.
Rhondda Heritage Park
An award winning attraction which transports you into the depth of a recreated coal mine and shows how mining shaped the South Wales Valleys for generations. A truly thrilling experience. Tel: 01443 682036

Llancaiach Fawr Manor
This is a 350 year old manor house operating as it did back then. Guides in costume show visitors what life was like in 1645 while falconry exhibitions are held each day and civil war recreations are regularly enacted. Tel: 01443 412248.
Brecon Mountain Railway
One of the most popular steam railways in Wales, with spectacular views of the mountain is just 15 minutes from us. Tel: 01685 722988
Blaenavon
This former mining and iron town has recently been given "World Heritage Status" along with attractions such as the Taj Mahal, Pyramids and Hadrian's Wall. The 18th century iron works and the ironmasters' houses and chapels are still here to explore, but best of all is the Big Pit. This is a real colliery where you will be transported to a depth of 90 metres within a pit cage, and then guided through the labyrinth of mine shafts by ex-miners. Unmissable.

This is a grand, castellated mansion which hosts a superb art gallery and museum detailing the industrial heritage of Merthyr Tydfil and the South Wales Valleys.

The Castles and Historic Ruins of South Wales
There are a host of castles from throughout the ages for you to enjoy during your visit including the fairy tale Castell Coch, huge, Caerphilly Castle with its unique leaning tower, the grand Cardiff Castle and the ruins of Raglan Castle to name but a few. We also have the remains of Tintern and Llanthony Abbeys and Tretower with its re-constructed, medieval gardens.
South Wales Borderers Museum
Brecon has been the host to the British Army for centuries and the museum has exhibits commemorating 280 years of military history including a fascinating display on the Zulu war, essential for fans of the film "Zulu".

The National Botanic Gardens of Wales and Aberglasney
Gardens of international significance can be found less than an hour from us. The National Botanic Gardens with their Great Glasshouse designed by Norman Foster are the first to have been created in the UK for 200 years.

Cardiff and St Fagans, The Museum of Welsh Life
Cardiff has all the shopping and entertainment that one would expect from the capital of Wales together with the awe inspiring Cardiff Bay development. Close by is St Fagans with its 40 authentic, historical buildings from throughout Wales. These have been rebuilt stone by stone so that one can see how people have lived from Celtic times.
