best local sights
Nant Ddu Lodge is fortunate to be located in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, one of Wales's three national parks. Whilst the rooms themselves do not have panoramic views of the mountains and reservoirs, they are merely a stone's throw away. The park itself is a beautiful space for wildlife and nature to thrive and just a handful of miles north of us is the famous peak of Pen y Fan (Wales' second highest mountain). Venture further and you'll find a wealth of history and beauty including castles, hillforts, caves and walks galore.
There's an outdoor activity for everyone in this area. From a relaxing day golfing or fishing to an adrenaline-rushing kayaking or climbing experience, we're proud to have it all on our doorstep.
Walk the Taff trail - a 55 mile way-marked route from the market town of Brecon to Cardiff, the capital of Wales.
Take the Brecon Mountain Railway - an opportunity to ride behind a vintage steam locomotive through beautiful scenery along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir.
Stroll along the waterfall walks at Ystradfellte or visit the National Showcaves Centre for Wales at Dan-yr-Ogof.
This area also boasts a wealth of sleepy hamlets and historical market towns. Take a trip to Historic Brecon with its narrow Georgian streets and 12th century cathedral. Or stop in one of the many little villages dotted around the mountains - they all have a rich history to bring to this vibrant area.
Alternatively, why not visit the Penderyn Distillery - a fully operational whisky maker just 15 minutes from our door.
CYCLES & CYCLE HIRE
If you'd like to bring your own bikes, you're most welcome - we have a place to store them for the length of your stay. Alternatively, we have arranged local bike hire with Bi-Ped Cycles Of Brecon. For a small rental charge, they will deliver bikes to Nant Ddu Lodge before you arrive and collect them after the end of your stay. There are numerous cycle trails in this area so we recommend this as an excellent way to see the sights.
